She craves his touch.
Amelia Barlow is cursed. When she was sixteen, a car accident killed her twin brother and left her in a coma. When she awoke, she had the ability to hear other people’s thoughts simply by touching them.
Detective Jack Emerson is half-Lycan and half-human. His hunt for a vampire leads him to Amelia’s hometown. He is immediately drawn to Amelia but he finds her refusal to let him touch her puzzling.
However, Amelia’s denial of his touch is the least of his problems – the Lycans want her power.

Amelia sighed. The heart beneath her ear beat a steady rhythm, and her body seemed to sway in gentle response to it. She sighed again and snuggled closer, one hand creeping up to wrap around a powerful neck. She could feel coarse chest hair against her cheek, and she rubbed the side of her face against it delicately. She shivered as a cool wind bit into her bare back where her tank top had ridden up, and she was shifted and held more firmly.
So nice, she thought dreamily. The motion reminded her of being a child and her father scooping her up and carrying her to her bed. It had been so long since she’d felt the warmth and touch of another human. The last time was ten years ago when Richard –
Amelia’s eyes flew open. She was being cradled against a very warm, very hard chest and carried through the darkness. She struggled, and Jack’s voice washed over her. “It’s okay, Amelia. You’re safe. You’re fine.”
“Jack?” She craned her neck over his shoulder and saw Lupe following behind them. “Lupe found you. Good puppy.”
Jack shifted her higher, and she tucked her head against his throat for a moment. She still felt tired and weak, and the heat radiating from Jack’s body made her sleepy. She traced one finger over his bare shoulder, feeling the muscles below the smoothness of his skin.
“Why are you so hot?” she asked. “Your skin is -”
She stopped as the realization of what was happening sunk in. She twisted and squirmed against him, so violently he nearly dropped her. “Put me down! Right now! Jack, put me down!”
Cursing, he dropped her to her feet, but as soon as he let go of her, a wave of dizziness washed over her. She lurched forward, and Jack grabbed her by her forearms.
“No,” she begged, “don’t….”
She paused, staring at Jack’s hands on her arms.
“Amelia? Do you feel faint?” Jack asked.
She shook her head. “Jack, do you feel me?”
“Of course, I feel you.” He rubbed her upper arms. “You feel freezing.”
She reached up and placed her trembling hands on his cheeks.
“Amelia, what are you doing?” he asked.
“Shh, just be quiet for a minute,” she said.
He did as she asked. She stood quietly for more than a minute, staring intensely at him. Holy crap… she couldn’t feel him.
“Amelia?” Jack said.
“I can’t feel you,” she said.
“What do you mean?” He touched her hands. “Are your hands that numb?”
“I can’t feel you,” she repeated. She traced one hand down his throat and pressed it against his chest directly over his heart. She felt his heartbeat increase at the gentle pressure of her skin against his.
A child-like grin of delight crossed her face. “You’re blank to me. I can’t feel anything.”
“Amelia, I have no idea what you mean, but we need to go. You’ve lost a lot of blood, and it’s getting colder. We need to get you to the hospital.”
She pulled back a little, the look of delight still on her face, and looked down his body. “What is it that makes you different? Why can’t I feel….”
A hot blush flooded through her, and she almost forgot for a moment that she couldn’t feel Jack’s emotions or thoughts. She stared at his body for another ten seconds before lifting her gaze to his face.
“Jack? Why are you naked?”
